Art Contest Entry Form

Thank you for joining us for Toshocon 2024! See you July 1st, 2025.

ToshoCON Art Contest Rules

  1. Entries must be related to anime, manga, Japanese culture, or video games.
  2. One entry per teen, per medium category.
  3. Entrant(s) must reside in the state of Utah.
  4. Winning entrant(s) must be able to pick up prize in-person from a Salt Lake County branch location by Saturday, October 19, 2024. After October 19, 2024 unclaimed prizes become the property of Salt Lake County Library.
  5. Winners will be selected from three categories, in two experience levels—beginner and intermediate:
    1. Category 1: scanned image or photo of hand-drawn art in black and white or grayscale (may not use any digital components like touching up or outlining using software, apps, digital tools, or mixed media digital platforms);
    2. Category 2: scanned image or photo of hand-drawn art in color (may not use any digital components like touching up or outlining using software, apps, digital tools, or mixed media digital platforms);
    3. Category 3: scanned image of mixed media (includes all electronic images, a scan or a photo, cosplay costumes, digital art, hand-drawn art incorporating digital components, using digital tools, apps, or platforms, 3D art, sculpture, etc.)
    4. Beginner and Intermediate levels—ToshoCON reserves the right to move entries from one level to the other based on our assessment of skill.
  6. Multiple entries by the same teen (using different aliases or email addresses) in a single category will be disqualified. Teens cannot enter in both experience levels for the same category.
  7. Judges will not know the identity of the artists as they judge, but entrants are limited to winning in one category. If the same artist wins in multiple categories one, will be skipped over for the artwork rated next highest.
  8. Content must be kept to PG/PG-13 standards. Gore, nudity, self-harm, and excessive violence is not allowed.
  9. Images must be uploaded to the SLCO website in .jpg format and cannot exceed 10 MB.
  10. Entries must be wholly owned by the participant. Art must be the original work of the teen, whether creating a well-known character or an original character in the anime style. Redraws or takes on a specific scene or image from an anime are permissible, but must be the artist’s version and not traced or otherwise copied directly.
  11. AI generated art is a new and untested medium. Because it is so new, and the ethical questions about its use unanswered, it is not allowed to be used for this contest.
  12. Submission Deadline: All entries must be submitted electronically via scan/email. Contest opens Monday, July 1, 2024. Entries are due by 11:59 pm on Saturday, August 17, 2024.
  13. Online voting for Best Teen Choice award begins on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 and closes on Friday, September 13, 2024 at 5:00 PM.
  14. The use of voting bots associated with an art entry will lead to disqualification.
  15. First and second place awards, and honorable mention winners for categories one, two, and three, for each experience level, will be determined by independent judges.
  16. All prize winners will be announced on Saturday, September 14, 2024. Winning artwork will be posted on the ToshoCON Art Contest webpage after Friday, September 20, 2024.
    1. Awards will be presented at the Finale and Awards presentation on Saturday, September 14.
    2. Prizes must be claimed on-site. No prizes will be mailed to any winners.
    3. Unclaimed prizes at the end of ToshoCON must be picked up at a Salt Lake County Library branch by October 19, 2024.
    4. All prizes that have not been picked up at a Salt Lake County Library branch by October 19, 2024 become the property of Salt Lake County Library Services.
